Cocker Puppy Purchasing Information
Puppies are wormed every two weeks from two weeks of age. They receive their first "5-way" puppy vaccination at 6 weeks and will receive at least one "booster" before leaving.
At 8 weeks, they are structurally evaluated and aptitude tested. This helps determine which pups have more potential as one or more of the following: Companion/Family Pet, Family Gundog, Breeding Prospect, Show Prospect, Obedience Prospect or Therapy Prospect (this does not mean Service Dog Prospect). At this time, they are also microchipped. This is to help guard against loss or theft. We do recommend that the new family keep an ID tag (with current contact information) on the pup/dog's collar at all times for a quick visual ID. A properly sized buckle collar is recommended, make sure the puppy/dog has not outgrown the collar as a collar that's too small or tight can grow into the neck. Buckle collars can be found at Tractor Supply and online. (Harnesses are not recommended for many reasons. These reasons are covered in the contract and information packet.) Adjustable collars can loosen and fall off. Slip, martingale or "choke" collars should only be used during training/walking and should never be left on a puppy or dog. No collar of any kind should ever be left on a puppy or dog when he or she is in a crate, kennel, etc.
Since we watch the pups' development and know their personalities and structure, we help new families choose their puppy. New families do have a say in which pup they want based on whether they are interested in a companion/family pet, family gundog, breeding, show, obedience or therapy prospect. If there are specific traits the new family is looking for, we will help point those out in the puppies so that there is a better fit between the family and puppy.
Pick up is at 10 weeks. Puppies are vet checked before leaving and go with a three year written health guarantee.
If at any point in the puppy/dog's life, the family can no longer keep or no longer wants the dog for any reason, we require the dog either be returned to us or that we be allowed to help place the dog in a suitable new home with the same agreement. This is to prevent our dogs from ending up in shelters, rescues or other undesirable or bad situations. Please do not be ashamed, simply contact us and we will work with you on any necessary arrangements. You will find that most breeders and rescues, that would be considered reputable, will require the same.

Please note:
We reserve the right to retain our first choice male and/or female.
We reserve the right to refuse sale/placement and in such event will return the deposit and any payments.
If we feel a Cocker is not for you or simply that we do not have what you are looking for, we will direct you to other reputable breeders and rescue groups of Cockers or other breeds. Our first priority is our puppies and dogs. We are not simply out to "make a sale".
You may contact us for further information at [email protected].

Family Gundog/Breeding and/or Show/Breeding: $1500
Contact for further information. [email protected]
Deposit
A deposit of $500 is required to reserve. The deposit is non-refundable if you change your mind since once a deposit is made the puppy is identified as "spoken for" and other prospective homes will be turned away. By placing a deposit, you understand that it is non-refundable (unless we do not have a suitable puppy available) and you agree to the terms in the purchase agreement/health guarantee. See a sample purchase agreement/health guarantee .pdf file to download, below. (This sample is for Pyrs. The Cocker one will be posted later.)
The deposit is applied toward the final balance. Deposits reserve the new families' place on the waiting list and help ensure we have good homes waiting on puppies.
*****US Postal money orders are preferred but personal checks are acceptable for deposits. Personal checks are not accepted for final payment. All checks and money orders of any kind must clear our bank before the puppy leaves us.
Guarantee
Puppies go with a three year written health guarantee. We offer a three year guarantee because hips and elbows cannot be certified until two years of age.
Please remember that puppies are not fully protected from disease until at least their fourth vaccination and at least 16 weeks old. Please do not take your puppy to any public areas that may be exposed to unvaccinated canines until your puppy has completed its vaccinations. If you take your puppy to the veterinarian for any vaccinations, wormings or check-ups prior to that time, please remember not to let the puppy touch the ground or floor, for you and the puppy not to touch other animals and to make sure the vet and staff disinfect their hands and the exam table before examining your puppy.
Below is a .pdf file of an example of the purchase agreement/health guarantee for pups placed with limited AKC registration. (This example is for Pyrs. The Cocker one will be posted later.)

Registration
Companions/Family Pets and Family Gundogs who are not going for breeding or show purposes are placed with AKC Limited Registration. This means that the puppy is registered with the American Kennel Club but cannot compete in conformation shows and no litters produced by him or her would be eligible for registration. These dogs are still wonderful companions and gundogs and can compete in other AKC events, with proper training. Here is the link to AKC's page about limited registration. http://www.akc.org/reg/limitedreg.cfm
Family Gundog/Breeding and/or Show/Breeding prospects are placed with Full AKC Registration. The pup can compete in all AKC events, with proper training, and puppies produced can be registered. The pup will also have been evaluated as having correct companion and gundog ability before being considered breeding or show quality. (If a gundog/show/breeding quality puppy is going to a companion only home or non-breeding family gundog home, he or she will be placed with limited registration.)
Please note: We specify Family Gundog/Breeding or Show/Breeding because we understand that there are responsible breeders of gundogs who do not actively show their dogs in conformation, and also that there are responsible breeders of show dogs who do not have the opportunity to hunt with their dogs. We believe that the qualities that make a good gundog and a correct Cocker Spaniel (American) are also the qualities that make a good show Cocker, therefore, we evaluate the structure, type, temperament and working ability before they leave for their new homes. If a puppy is going for breeding or show purposes, we feel that puppy has above average promise to be a good gundog and potential as a breeding or show dog, with proper training (gundog and/or show). There is nothing wrong with an average dog, but in order to continue the breed in its original and true form and with its original and true abilities, above average dogs should be the ones who are used for breeding. We evaluate according to the AKC/ASC breed standard and their history as gundogs, taking into consideration the physical and mental qualities which the original gentleman hunters required of their gundogs. We understand that the show ring is very political these days, however, the original purpose of dog shows was to evaluate breeding stock and we feel that correct gundog type should continue to be presented in the ring.
If you are interested in full registration, please let us know ahead of time. We are open to helping new people get started or providing established breeders with complementing dogs. We have no problem with competition in the show ring, or otherwise, it's all part of the game and the more quality dogs competing, the better for the breed and the better the wins, whether it's our dogs or someone else's who win.
If you're interested in breeding or showing your dog, you must be sincere in producing good dogs and sincere in placing puppies, in a responsible manner, in good homes.....not for "all the money to be made off puppies". Trust us, it takes a lot more time and money to put into a litter and their parents than is ultimately "made" and it requires a special love and dedication to the dogs and the breed.
Please remember, if at any time in a dog's life, the family can no longer keep or no longer wants him or her, we will either take him or her back or help find a suitable new home.
